It’s a decorative religious plaque marking a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, a title for the Virgin Mary that emphasizes her suffering and compassion.

This small chapel was erected around 1701 at the initiative of the Capuchin friar Pablo de Cádiz as the headquarters of the
spiritual company of the Virgin of the Way , from which its popular name, Chapel of the Little Path, derives. In the mid-18th century, this dedication changed to that of Our Lady of Sorrows.
